Resolving the Web of Fancy
Poem 324, from Mystical Poems of Jnaneshwar
An old debt came knocking
at the door.
I went looking for something with which to pay
but found nothing that was mine.
By Nivritti’s knowledge
I too have come to know.
Now everything
has been offered up.
Vitthal, Lord of the great goddess,
has moved in
resolving everything,
my whole web of fancy.
our thoughts
It is said that the karmas of liberated beings have been burnt up. There is no more coming and going for them. Jnandev says when “an old debt” came knocking, he couldn’t find anything to pay with. Not even his body or his mind was his anymore. No “web of fancy,” no samsara left. One can’t help but think of his entering into his mahasamadhi, final entrance into the supreme, live, at age twenty one.
